    Matthew Hindson AM (b. 1968, Wollongong) is one of Australia’s most dynamic and successful composers. His invigorating soundworld is both immediate and direct, and his innate sense for drama, wit and spontaneous joie de vivre has resulted in many of his scores having a significant and ongoing international presence. As well as being performed by every Australian orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic among many others, Matthew’s distinctively original music has been set by dance companies such as the Birmingham Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, National Ballet of Japan, The Australian Ballet and the Queensland Ballet. He has written for soloists and ensembles all over the world.

    Matthew Hindson AM is one of Australia’s most dynamic and successful composers. His invigorating soundworld is both immediate and direct, and his innate sense for drama, wit and spontaneous joie de vivre has resulted in many of his scores being adapted for ballet by some of the world’s major dance companies such as the Birmingham Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, National Ballet of Japan, The Australian Ballet and the Queensland Ballet. His concert works, too, are regularly performed by leading ensembles and orchestras including every Australian orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra amongst many others. 

     

    He has enjoyed residencies with the Sydney SO (1999), Queensland Orchestra (2003-4), was Featured Composer with Musica Viva Australia (2002) and at Vale of Glamorgan Festival (2003).  His music is ideally suited for dance

    Matthew John HindsonAM (born 12 September 1968)[1] is an Australian composer.

    Biography

    Matthew Hindson was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, in 1968. He studied composition at the Universities of Sydney and Melbourne with composers including Peter Sculthorpe, Eric Gross, Brenton Broadstock and Ross Edwards.

    Hindson's works have been performed by ensembles and orchestras throughout his native Australia, including most of its professional symphony orchestras and chamber groups. Overseas, his compositions have been presented in New Zealand, Germany, France, Austria, the UK, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Canada and Thailand, and have been featured at such key events as the 1994 and 2000 Gaudeamus Music Weeks[2] in Amsterdam, the 1997 ISCM Festival in Copenhagen and the 1998 Paris Composers Rostrum.
