    AUSTIN - Thomas Britton "Britt" Harris IV, president and CEO, and former Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of UTIMCO, The University of Texas / Texas A&M Investment Management Company, was inducted into the Markets Group/Institutional Allocator Chief Investment OfficerHall of Fame for the contributions, innovations, and leadership he has brought to the financial industry and to the allocator community at large.

    Britt Harris joined the University of Texas Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) as president, CEO, and CIO in August , after leading the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) for more than a decade.

    In that earlier stint, Harris was instrumental in developing what has become known in the industry as the Texas Way of institutional investing. Shortly after joining UTIMCO, Harris spoke with McKinsey’s Grant Birdwell and Bryce Klempner.

    McKinsey: You’ve developed the so-called Texas Way of investing. How would you describe it?

There, success was to beat your benchmarks, stay within your risk parameters, meet with the board once a year for half an hour, tell a couple of interesting stories about the markets, give your evaluation of the future, talk about a couple things

    Britt Harris has more than 30 years of investment experience leading several of the largest, most successful, and most innovative investment organizations in America. In addition, Mr. Harris is currently a member of the President’s Working Group for Financial Markets and an advisor to the New York Federal Reserve. He is one of only a few people who have worked extensively in both the private and public sectors.

    Mr. Harris is currently the President, CEO, and CIO of The University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Company (UTIMCO). UTIMCO is the first external investment corporation formed by a public university system and oversees investments for The University of Texas and Texas A&M Systems.

    Previously, Mr. Harris served as the Chief Investment Officer for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) which is among the 25 largest investment funds in the world. Prior to his arrival at TRS, he was the CEO for Bridgewater Assoc
