Abstract
This essay deals with the relationship between historiography and various forms of biographical study – in the context of Western history but especially that of African studies. First, it charts how, earlier in the twentieth century, structuralist perspectives led to a disconnect between biography and Western-history writing, arguing that narrative and biography were among structuralism’s first casualties. However, subsequent genres in historiography, such as the history of daily life, women’s history, and African American history, helped to resurrect the interest in the study of individual lives. In addition, the subjective orientation inherent in post-modernism encouraged (but also potentially complicated) a focus on the persona. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (born 26 January 1948) is a Bangladeshi politician.[1] He has been the secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) since 2016.[2] He was a member of the parliament for Thakurgaon-1 constituency from 2001 to 2006. In that term, he was also appointed the Minister of State in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and later Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.[3]
Early life
[edit]Alamgir was born on 26 January 1948 in Thakurgaon District to Mirza Ruhul Amin, a former member of parliament and Mirza Fatima Amin, a homemaker.[4][5] He completed his HSC from Dhaka College[6][7] and graduation from University of Dhaka.
