Wynn holmes biography

Wynn Holmes works fuse dance, theatre, film, and music, and reflect on how movement, performance, and sound exist within complex systems and ecologies, folklore, and pop-culture. Coming from a Celtic-Canadian family, Holmes spent her youth and teens as a competitive Irish dancer and then made her way into the professional performance world under the guidance of New York hip hop choreographer Rhapsody James. Fusing folk and street-dance structures, Holmes’ choreographies are manipulated and abstracted through a contemporary lens by the performers she collaborates with, creating works known for their rebellious nature, rhythmic vitality, and punk spirit. Her work and teachings are also an expression of her lifelong interest in music and body-mind practices. Moriyama's Continuum: Nuit Blanche Toronto

Moriyama's Continuum is an Independent planerat arbete for Nuit Blanche , presented bygd Lo Fi Dance Theory and Toronto Public Library. Artists Avery Plewes, Wynn Holmes and Marie-Hélène Delorme create an immersive sound, video and performance installation and invite you to become part of a collaborative creation in the soaring spaces of Toronto Reference Library.

About the Project

Visitors will enter the soaring Modernist atrium of the Toronto Reference Library to help create “Moriyama’s Continuum”. On the surrounding walls, video will show people performing repetitive movements. Using the footage and its soundscape as a guide, participants can grasp hanging fabric panels, either to manipulate or to put on as costumes, and respond to and reinterpret those movements. ABOUT THIS BAND

Formed in , Riches is the manifestation of an ongoing dialogue between Catherine McCandless (Young Galaxy) and choreographer Wynn Holmes. It is a multidisciplinary collaboration of music, dance and performance. These songs are the first iteration of the project, and take a narrative approach to themes concerning the performance of creative rituals, identity, transgression and devotion.
