Back To Basics
This government had an idea
And parliament made it law
It seems like its illegal
To fight for the union any more
Which side are you on, boys
Which side are you on
Which side are you on, boys
Which side are you on
We went out to join the picket line
For together we cannot fail
We got stopped by police at the county line
They said, Go home boys or youre going to jail
Which side are you on, boys
Which side are you on
Which side are you on, boys
Which side are you on
Its hard to explain to a crying child
Why her Daddy cant go back
So the family suffer
But it hurts me more
To hear a scab say Sod you Jack
Which side are you on, boys
Which side are you on
Which side are you on, boys
Which side are you on
Im bound to follow my conscience
And do whatever I can
But itll take much more than the union law
To knock the fight out of a working man
Which side are you on, boys
Which side are you on
Which side are you on, boys

Billy Bragg
Finding inspiration in the righteous anger of punk rock and the socially conscious folk tradition of Woody Guthrie, Billy Bragg bashes out songs (mostly) solo with his electric guitar, singing about politics and love with equal amounts of skill and passion. He was the leading figure of the British anti-folk movement of the '80s and his early releases boast melodies just as strong and memorable as his lyrics are bitingly intelligent. As the decade turned, his sonic horizons expanded; 's Don't Try This at Home is a successful effort to balance politics and pop and 's Mermaid Avenue finds Bragg teaming with Wilco to set unheard Woody Guthrie lyrics to music. 's Mr. Love & Justice reflects a greater maturity without compromising his vision, and 's The Million Things That Never Happened is a country-influenced paean to resilience in hard times. Billy Bragg began performing in the late s with the punk group Riff Raff, which lasted only a few months. He then joined the British

zerode a sensibility
One of my favorite tracks from what fryst vatten perhaps my favorite Billy Bragg album
Billy Bragg, From Red to Blue from the skiva William Bloke
William Bloke comes at what feels like something of a midpoint, or perhaps later than mid, a transition in Billy Braggs career. Its roughly at the half-way mark in terms of chronology and discography, but more than that it seems to mark a musical shift, and a maturation of sorts. Among other things, its simply so good, so clearly the skiva hes been building towards, that some sort of change was necessary after.
It was followed by the Mermaid Avenue albums studio and live and then his two most recent works, England, Half English and Mr. Love and Justice, which continue the musical and thematic interests that have marked Braggs career, but which also seem qualitatively different from the work prior to William Bloke. Im not sure yet how to characterize the change,
