    Thanks to Lauren Simone, the executive director of the Florida Panthers Foundation, the only official organization’s fundraiser of the year was a smash hit as Cat & Cocktails at Louie Bossi’s restaurant on Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale was a rousing success.

    The figures haven’t been released yet, but suffice it to say that thousands of dollars were raised for the team’s foundation which donates proceeds to several causes, including veteran’s issues, youth hockey in South Florida, health and education, as well as raising awareness to save the panther, the team’s mascot and an endangered species.

    A Florida Panthers request for $86 million in public funds will move forward, after a majority of county commissioners said Tuesday they were interested in exploring a possible aid package for the professional hockey team.

    The informal show of hands doesn’t seal the deal for the Panthers. But it means a formal proposal will be brought to a County Commission vote, likely by year’s end.
