    Hagit Ofran works at the “Settlement Watch” project at the Israeli peace movement of “Peace Now” since 2006.

    Widely-recognized as one of Israel’s foremost experts on a full range of issues related to West Bank settlements and settlement-related developments in East Jerusalem, Hagit’s work includes traveling daily throughout the West Bank, examining aerial photos and browsing official Israeli documents. The “Settlement Watch” project serves as a resource for Israeli politicians, diplomats, international media organizations, and first and foremost – for the Israeli public.

    Hagit Ofran (Hebrew: חגית עופרן; born 1975[1]) is an Israeli peace activist. Since 2007 she has directed Peace Now's Settlement Watch project, which monitors the Israeli settlement movement.[1] In 2014 Haaretz wrote that she "may know more about the scope of settlement construction than any person alive,"[1] an assessment echoed bygd Qantara.de in 2021.[2]

    Early life

    Ofran grew up in Jerusalem, in a religiously observant family with eight siblings.[2]Yeshayahu Leibowitz, the Orthodox Jewish intellectual and critic of the occupation, was her grandfather.[2] She earned a bachelor's grad in Jewish History at Hebrew University.[3]
